United Way Recognizes the City of McAllen as “Top 10 Company”

MCALLEN, TEXAS – OCTOBER 5, 2021 – The United Way of South Texas Board of Directors thanks the City of McAllen employees for their generosity and commitment to the community. The City of McAllen is one of United Way’s Top 10 Company Supporters.

Javier Zamora and Estela Velasquez are City of McAllen employees who are volunteering as Loaned Executives and coordinating the City’s Employee Campaign. They, along with the support of City Management and Directors, are helping to inform co-workers about many of the critical services that are provided by United Way programs and partner agencies.

In 2020, United Way Agencies and Programs provided 32,000 units of direct service to McAllen residents. Partner agencies, including the American Red Cross, Girl Scouts of Greater South Texas, Children’s Advocacy Center, CASA, The Salvation Army, United Way’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA), Day of Caring, and the Back to School “In Style” Shopping Spree, impacted over 172,500 residents throughout Hidalgo and Starr Counties.

The United Way Board of Directors extends their deepest appreciation to all City of McAllen employees for their continued support and everyone who invests in United Way of South Texas. The dedication and commitment from Loaned Executives Javier Zamora and Estela Velasquez have been instrumental to the success of their workplace campaign and to making a difference in the community.
