Why Give

to United Way

The United Way Fund Distribution Process is a joint effort of the Board, Staff,Volunteers and Agencies, who work to solve issues related to Health, Financial Stability, Education and Safety Net.

The Fund Distribution Process gives community representatives the opportunity to learn about the agencies that they support through their United Way dollars.

They make recommendations on corrective action plans and funding levels.

The process uniquely makes United Way of South Texas and our Partners Extraordinarily Accountable.

Fund Distribution Process

Eligible Social Service Agencies, who address issues related to Health, Financial Stability, Education and Safety Net, may apply for consideration.

Some of the information they must provide includes:

  1. Proof of services to residents in Hidalgo and/or Starr Counties
  2. Financial Accountability Reports
  3. List of Active Board Members
  4. Summary of ProgramsOutcome Measurements of Each Program

Volunteers from financial institutions are recruited to serve on the Fund Distribution Audit Committee.

Volunteers meet with the CEOs and Financial Committees of United Way agencies to review financial documents. Volunteers do not review financial documents of any agencies with whom they have a conflict of interest.

Volunteers prepare final recommendations for the agencies by expressing and/or writing suggestions at the end of the visits.
