MCALLEN, TEXAS – OCTOBER 5, 2021 – United Way of South Texas thanks Magic Valley Electric Cooperative (MVEC) and CoBank for their corporate contributions. MVEC’s support of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program was matched 100% by CoBank’s Sharing Success program.

Thanks to VITA supporters, such as MVEC, 2,402 households were assisted with free income tax preparation services last year. Families throughout Hidalgo and Starr Counties saved approximately $600,500 in tax preparation fees and received nearly $5.2 million in refunds. MVEC’s continued support will help more families and individuals earning $60,000 or less to benefit from VITA services.

MVEC has sponsored United Way’s VITA program for 8 years and also runs a successful Employee Workplace Campaign, which gives their employees an opportunity to support critical services in our community through payroll deduction. MVEC employees also volunteer in many UW programs, including Day of Caring “Project FreshStart”, the Back-to-School “In Style” Shopping Spree and the Campaign Loaned Executive Program.

The United Way Board of Directors thanks Magic Valley Electric Cooperative, all MVEC Employees and CoBank for their support.
