United Way of South Texas Announces the South Texas Hero of the Year
Jim Deuser, Sales Manager, McAllen Chamber of Commerce, was recognized as the South Texas Hero during United Way of South Texas’ Volunteer & Company Awards Ceremony, at the McAllen Country Club on March 12th. The South Texas Hero Award is presented to an individual that demonstrates commitment and leadership in his/her community, through extraordinary engagement in year-round community service projects. The Award was established in 2008, in honor of Mr. Ray Alexander, retired General Manager of KRGV TV 5. He was instrumental in leading and strengthening the United Way of South Texas in collaborations with non-profit networks and in establishing the Rio Grande Valley’s 211 Information and Referral program. Former honorees include Ray Alexander, David Guerra, President, I.B.C., Joe Vera, III, former City Manager, City of Hidalgo, Steve Ahlenius, President, McAllen Chamber of Commerce, Jenise Diaz, former C.F.O., The Monitor, Dr. Marla Guerra, Superintendent, South Texas I.S.D and Adrian Villarreal, Executive Vice-President, IBC.

Jim Deuser has worked with the United Way of South Texas as Past Chairman of the Board and Campaign Chair. He continues his involvement in Fund Distribution where he has volunteered for over 20 years. Mr. Deuser also serves on the United Way’s Building Capital Drive committee and as an outstanding campaign speaker. The Board expresses their appreciation to Mr. Deuser for his continuous volunteer efforts and contributions throughout the years.
