The United Way Board of Directors recognizes Magic Valley Electric Cooperative (MVEC) as a Top 10 Company Supporter of United Way of South Texas. This is the first year that MVEC is a Top Ten Company; however, management and employees have served in volunteer leadership roles for over fifteen years. In fact, John Herrera, retired General Manager, was United Way’s South Texas Hero in 2017. Magic Valley employees and the corporation contributed over $27,500 to United Way of South Texas during the 2021 Campaign.
Mary Aceves was a MVEC volunteer Loaned Executive and was instrumental in educating MVEC Employees about United Way funded programs throughout the campaign. MVEC also financially supports United Way’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program and informs members about the free VITA tax preparation service for eligible families. The MVEC team also commits to community service throughout the year. They volunteer in United Way’s Day of Caring “Project FreshStart”, the Back-to-School “In Style” Shopping Spree and the Campaign Loaned Executive Program.
“Magic Valley operates under the Seven Cooperative Principles, of which one is Concern for community,” Brian Acosta, MVEC General Manager said. “Our employees exercise this principle by generously, reaching into their pockets on a monthly basis to give directly to United Way of South Texas in order to support local non-profit organizations that provide needed services in the communities that Magic Valley serves.”
The United Way Board of Directors extends their deepest appreciation to all Magic Valley Electric Cooperative employees and everyone who invests in United Way of South Texas.
