MCALLEN, TEXAS – MAY 25, 2021 – The United Way Board of Directors thanks Walmart, Walmart Neighborhood Markets and Sam’s Club Employees for their commitment and support of United Way of South Texas. The majority of the stores represent Walmart Market 80 and include stores from Weslaco through Rio Grande City.
Walmart Stores are the first ones to officially kick-off their Campaign every year. In 2020, employees increased their contributions by an outstanding 20 percent. With the support of the Market Manager, Ms. Lupita Guerra, and Market People Operations Lead, Ms. Melly Anzaldua, the Human Resources team, along with each Walmart and Sam’s store manager, conducts the annual Employee Workplace Campaign.

The critical financial investment that employees of Walmart and other companies make to United Way impacts almost 30% of the population in Hidalgo & Starr Counties. Over 178,500 individuals benefited from a United Way funded program last year, including emergency shelter for victims of domestic violence and for the homeless; after school, youth leadership and homework assistance programs for children; end-of-life care services; advocates for children in foster care; free income tax preparation services for families who earn $60,000 a year or less and much more.
