MCALLEN, TEXAS – United Way of South Texas celebrated Outstanding Volunteers and Supporters virtually on March 11th. It was with great pleasure that the United Way Board of Directors recognized Elizabeth Rivera from Boys and Girls Club of Pharr/San Juan as the 2020 United Way Loaned Executive of the Year.

Loaned Executive volunteers are “loaned” to the United Way by their companies for the duration of United Way’s annual Campaign. They assist United Way in raising funds to support Partner Agencies and United Way Programs that impact over 225,000 residents throughout Hidalgo and Starr Counties. Loaned Executives are extremely engaged and passionate about serving their community. Ms. Rivera, demonstrated leadership and made herself available to United Way throughout the entire Campaign.

She is a Special Initiatives Coordinator and has worked at the Boys and Girls Club of Pharr for 13 years. Because of the pandemic, her role has been extremely important for both United Way and the Boys and Girls Club of Pharr. Ms. Rivera delivered powerful United Way messages via online platforms for dozens of employee groups.

“I love what I do as a United Way volunteer, I have learned how to be a better speaker and am thankful for all of the LEs that have volunteered with me. I love helping out and doing my best in helping anyone in need,” Rivera said. “We are helping the community through a really hard time and to be a part of these services that are free is such a blessing.”

The United Way Board of Directors thank Elizabeth Rivera and all other Loaned Executives for their leadership and dedication to the United Way. The following Companies provided United Way with Loaned Executives in 2020: Boys and Girls Club of Pharr/San Juan, Boys and Girls Club of Edinburg RGV, City of McAllen, City of Rio Grande City, IBC Bank, BBVA, South Texas Federal Credit Union, Starr County Victims of Domestic Violence Program, and Vantage Bank Texas.
