MCALLEN, TEXAS – MARCH 9, 2021 – United Way received more than 9,000 units of pandemic related supplies from AT&T on March 9. The donation of gloves, masks and hand sanitizers will allow twenty local non-profits and eight school districts in Hidalgo and Starr Counties to continue safely serving clients and students.
Since the start of the pandemic, United Way has distributed more than 29,000 units of personal protective equipment to agencies, school and municipality entities. The recent donation from AT&T, valued at $15,854, will help various agencies replenish their supplies and continue serving clients in a safe manner.
“We are proud to support United Way of South Texas in their efforts to help local nonprofits continue to provide their essential services to their communities while also taking steps to protect their essential workers,” said Mario Barragan, Director, AT&T Public Affairs.
The United Way Board of Directors thanks AT&T for selecting United Way to distribute pandemic related products. Ultimately, these supplies result in direct services that include youth leadership development, homework assistance, mental health and addiction counseling, food and rental assistance, income tax preparation services and much more.
“These important supplies have allowed our community to move forward and continue to serve some of the most vulnerable families, during the most challenging period in our generation,” said Lilly Lopez-Killelea, President of United Way of South Texas.
