The United Way Board of Directors recognized Olivia Gomez, Deputy Chief of Staff – Hidalgo County, Precinct 2, as the 2022 Company Coordinator of the Year at the 2023 Awards Ceremony.

In most years, over two hundred volunteers serve as Company Campaign Coordinators at financial institutions, retail stores, manufacturing and utility companies, municipalities and at other businesses. They are committed to running a successful workplace campaign, with a focus on educating their peers about important services that they too may be able to access. Their efforts and results support critical health and human service programs in Hidalgo & Starr Counties. Ms. Gomez has volunteered as the Campaign Coordinator for Hidalgo County for three years. She has been an exceptional leader and advocate for United Way, taking time to volunteer and recruit others to participate in programs such as the Back-to-School “In Style” Shopping Spree and Day of Caring – Project FreshStart.

“United Way improves lives and strengthens our RGV community by efficiently distributing funds to local community programs and initiatives that address critical issues such as education, health, poverty and homelessness,” Gomez said. “Donating and partnering with United Way allows us to impact our most vulnerable neighbors through the simple act of giving.”

Ms. Gomez ran one of the most successful campaigns at Hidalgo County by visiting each department and informing her peers about the impact of United Way programs in our community. With the support of Judge Richard Cortez, Commissioner Eduardo “Eddie” Cantu, all Precinct Commissioners, Directors and other leadership, Ms. Gomez coordinated the most successful United Way Campaign for Hidalgo County. The employees raised the bar and increased pledges by 20 percent, earning them the #2 Top Company Award, with a total of $91,851 in pledges.

The United Way Board of Directors thanks Olivia Gomez and all Hidalgo County Employees for their continued support.
