United Way of South Texas Recognizes the 2021 ISD Coordinator of the Year

United Way Board Members proudly recognized Jenny Ann Vega, Director of Digital Learning and Library Services, as the 2021 I.S.D. Campaign Coordinator of the Year. She was presented with the award at a McAllen ISD Board Meeting.

Mrs. Vega has served as an educator for over 20 years. She is a strong advocate of the United Way and its programs to assist students further their education. With the support of Dr. J. A. Gonzalez Superintendent, Principals, Directors and other leadership, she successfully promoted both the district’s foundation and United Way. McAllen ISD employees raised the bar in their community investments and contributed generously, earning them the United Way #1 Golden Apple Award for the third consecutive year. The Golden Apple Award is presented to the Top 5 Districts with the largest contributions to United Way.

“At McAllen ISD, we are in the business of serving our students, teachers and community,” Mrs. Vega said. “Our employees know how impactful United Way is in the lives of students across the Rio Grande Valley and they are willing to give so that United Way can continue its tradition of support.”

The United Way Board of Directors deeply appreciates the McAllen I.S.D. School Board, Superintendent, Principals, Directors and all McAllen ISD employees, for their outstanding support and daily commitment to the wellbeing and success of our students. We also recognize the immense invaluable impact that educators make in our community! Partnerships with Districts, such as the Education Council, the Youth Leadership Mentorship Program, the VITA program and others, create lifetime learning experiences for youth.

United Way of South Texas invests in programs that address critical services in the areas of Health, Education, Financial Stability, and Safety Net. The organization supports over 21 non-profit agencies in Hidalgo and Starr Counties that serve a minimum of 225,500 local residents annually. Services provided by United Way of South Texas through Partner Agencies include emergency shelter, family violence counseling, character building programs, child victim advocacy, and infant stimulation classes.
