United Way of South Texas Announces 2022 Top 10 Supporting Companies

The United Way Board of Directors proudly recognized United Way of South Texas volunteers, Company Supporters, and Pillar Club Members at the 2023 Awards Ceremony on March 3rd. The annual awards ceremony celebrates outstanding community service and campaign accomplishments in Hidalgo and Starr Counties.

Awards were presented to Key Volunteers, Top Supporting Districts, State and Federal Agencies and Top Companies. The Top 10 Contributing Companies represent organizations with a deep understanding of United Way’s impact on diverse social service needs in our area. They are committed to providing both volunteer and financial support to ensure that quality services are available for local families. The employees of the Top 10 Companies also donate thousands of volunteer hours to support critical programs funded by United Way including: the Back to School “In Style” Shopping Spree, Day of Caring Project FreshStart, Campaign Initiatives, Loaned Executive Program, Fund Distribution – Agency Accountability Process, and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program. The following Top 10 Companies were recognized: 1) H-E-B Stores & H-E-B RSC 2) Hidalgo County 3) City of McAllen 4) IBC Bank 5) Vantage Bank Texas 6) Target Stores 7) GE Aerospace 8) AEP Texas 9) Superior Health Plan 10) International Paper. These ten companies raised $795,695, representing 37% of the overall 2022 campaign.

“We are extremely proud of the time and dedication of the Campaign Coordinators at the Top 10 Companies. The support of their CEOs and leadership teams was instrumental in their ability to make personal contact with thousands of co-workers,” said Campaign Co-Chairs Elvira Alonzo, City of McAllen and Gerardo Paz, South Texas FCU.

The community’s support allows United Way to positively impact the wellbeing of over 185,000 individuals in Hidalgo and Starr Counties. Direct services through programs include: emergency shelter for victims of domestic violence and for the homeless; after school, youth leadership and homework assistance programs; end-of-life care services; advocates for children in foster care; free income tax preparation services for families who earn $60,000 a year or less; assistance for families affected by natural disasters and single home fires, and much more. The United Way Board of Directors extends their deepest appreciation to all who volunteer and donate to support critical services in the Rio Grande Valley.
