October 16, 2026

United Way of South Texas Board Members, including Cesar N. Rodriguez, City of McAllen, Michelle Quiroz, Reserva Coffee Roasters, Raul Sesin, Hidalgo County Drainage District No. 1 and Evan Kaufman, South TX Health System, visited with City of McAllen Manager Isaac Tawil and City Directors, to express heartfelt gratitude for their tremendous support and partnership.  The City of McAllen is consistently one of United Way’s Top Supporters, with engagement throughout the year.  They proudly select key personnel to serve as United Way Loaned executives every year, who complete professional development training and serve as an extension of the United Way staff during the fall Campaign.   2025 and 2026 Loaned Executives include:  Victor Castro; Fidel Covarrubias; Erick Flores; Stephanie Rivera; Enrique Guzman; Maria Balboa; Orlando Flores and Sarah Martinez.  They have been responsible for coordinating the City’s Employee Campaign, including educating employees about United Way services that impact hundreds of thousands of local residents.  This includes an important partnership with the City of McAllen – McAllen Metro, that offers free transportation vouchers to residents seeking employment, access to education and medical appointments, and those in need of social services in the McAllen area.

“At the heart of public service is a commitment to helping others. I am incredibly proud of the generosity of the City of McAllen employees, whose contributions have placed this organization among the United Way of South Texas top 10 fundraising companies. Their kindness and compassion reflect a genuine commitment to uplifting families and making a meaningful difference in our community. A special thank you to our Loaned Executives, whose dedication and hard work helped make this fundraising success possible. Together, we are making South Texas a stronger, more caring community”, shared Cesar N. Rodriguez, City of McAllen, Director of Strategic Management and United Way Board Member.

United Way funds more than 20 non-profit agencies that serve our community through critical programs that include shelters for victims of domestic violence and the homeless, youth mentorship programs, addiction counseling, utility and rent assistance, food and nutrition, after-school youth programs and homework assistance, end-of-life care services and much more. Newly funded grant recipients are The PossAble Dream Adult HS, Children’s Advocacy Center, the Children’s Bereavement Center, and South TX Juvenile Diabetes Association.

In addition, United Way spearheads the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA), Day of Caring Project “FreshStart”, the Back to School “In Style” Shopping Spree, and Spirit of Christmas. The United Way Board of Directors extends their deepest appreciation to all City of McAllen employees for their continued support and to everyone who invests in United Way of South Texas.
